The Village of Savoy, located just south of Champaign and north of Willard Airport, was incorporated in 1956. Current population is a little over 4,700 residents, having grown from 2,700 only 12 years ago. The median household income is $53,275, and 67% of the town's citizens have earned an associate degree or higher.

It's a beautiful village with amenities and services to rival a town of a much larger population. January of 2003 saw the opening of a medical office facility affiliated with Provena Covenant Medical Center. Five family practice physicians will work out of these offices.

Savoy is home to the University of Illinois Airport (Willard) which was dedicated on October 26, 1945. Commercial airline traffic began in September of 1950 with four Ozark Airlines DC3 aircraft offering service between St. Louis, Missouri and Chicago with stops in Springfield, Decatur, and Champaign. Its Champaign Airport Traffic Control Tower was commissioned on July 5, 1961 to assume approach control services for Willard Airport, Urbana's Illini Airport (now Frasca Field), Tuscola Airport, Monticello Piatt County Airport, and Allerton Airport. In January of 1971, the tower assumed approach control services for Rantoul's Chanute Air Force Base, in March of 1975 for Danville Vermillion County Airport, in July of 1978 for Decatur Airport (5,000-7,000 feet), in July of 1983 for the remaining air space over Decatur, and in February of 1984 for Mattoon Coles County Memorial Airport.
